Lunds universitet, MAX IV, Spectroscopy

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

The Balder beamline is dedicated to XAS and XES techniques with focus on in-situ studies in energy range 2.4-40 keV. The beamline is in commissioning phase at the 3 GeV storage ring at the MAX IV Laboratory and is expected to go into user operation later 2018.

Tasks

The main task would be to drive the project "XRD at Balder", which means implementation of XRD as a complementary technique to the main X-ray spectroscopy XAS/XES. The work will consist of working with mechanical and control engineers to integrate the detector support (supposedly a robotic arm) into the beamline control system. Later on, you will select the most appropriate XRD data reduction tools and together with control engineers integrate these into the data stream of Balder. As part of the Balder beamline team you are expected to participate in support to external users. This is a joint project funded by Chalmers University of Technology (Chalmers) therefore the job also includes reporting to Chalmers on the progress of this project, as well as participating in collaboration with other projects coordinated by Chalmers.

Qualifications

The successful candidate has the following qualifications:

- Experience at synchrotrons in XRD
- Deep knowledge of XRD analysis tools
- Preferably good skills in Python programming language for the integration of the XRD tools
- It is a merit to have experience of XAS measurement and analysis
- PhD in chemistry, physics or related disciplines completed not more than three years before the date of application
- Fluent in English (written and spoken)
- Demonstrated ability to work in teams and interact with a diverse group of scientists and technical staff in a dynamic environment

Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the doctoral degree or equivalent is completed no more than three years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.
