The Department of Immunotechnology is conducting research within the Life Sciences. Currently, the research groups have a specific focus on immunology, oncology, autoimmunity and hypersensitivity. The modern laboratory facilities are located at the dynamic Medicon Village Science Park where academic research is hosted together with private companies and actors from the health care sector. A wide range of state-of the art infrastructures are available including dedicated laboratories for mass spectrometry analysis and antibody production. The application of advanced technologies to solve complex biomedical challenges has taken the department to the forefront in several of the described research areas, and several spin-off companies are also located at Medicon Village.

Subject description
The proposed research focus includes application of a combination of affinity purification and mass spectrometry in proteomic investigations within the Life Sciences. The research is expected to have synergistic effects with other research at the Department, such as immunology, cancer, autoimmunity or hypersensitivity.

Work duties
Employment as an assistant professor (associate senior lecturer) is a career development position and  aims for the holder to develop his or her independence as a researcher and educator. The work duties mainly involve research and teaching. The position shall include the opportunity for five weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning.

Work duties comprise:

  • Research within the subject area to an extent of at least 70%
  • Project leading/collaboration with other academic groups and authorities
  • Teaching at advanced level
  • Supervision of degree projects and doctoral students
  • Actively seeking external research funding
  • Co-leading the mass spectrometry platform at the Department of Immunotechnology
  • Collaboration with industry and wider society
  • Administration related to the work duties listed above                                                                            

Qualification requirements
Appointment to associate senior lecturer requires that the applicant has
a PhD, or acquired corresponding research expertise. Priority should be given to applicants who have completed their degree or acquired the corresponding expertise no more than seven years before the last date for applications.

Additional requirements:
Very good oral and written proficiency in English. Excellent, documented skills within mass spectrometry-based proteomics, including hands-on experience with mass spectrometric analyses Documented experience of biochemical reasearch methods such as affinitiy purification and protein sample preparation Documented experience with analysis of data from high-throughput methods. 

Assessment criteria
For appointments to associate senior lecturer, the following shall form the assessment criteria:
A good ability to develop and conduct research is the primary criterium. Teaching skills.

Other qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to obtain national or international external funding grants in competition. An extensive international network is considered a merit.

Consideration will also be given to ability to co-operate, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research, education and innovation within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development. 

Terms of employment
This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of a maximum of 4 years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the collective agreement “Lokalt kollektivavtal om meriteringsanställning – biträdande universitetslektor” (“Local agreement on career development positions – associate senior lecturer”) between Lund University, SACO-S, OFR/S and SEKO, dated 26 June 2013.

Promotion to senior lecturer in Proteomics
During the period of employment, an associate senior lecturer can apply for appointment to a permanent position as senior lecturer if he or she has the required qualifications listed below, and is deemed to be suitable. An associate senior lecturer can only apply for promotion once.

Qualification requirements:
Appointment to senior lecturer requires that the applicant has:
A PhD or corresponding research competence or professional expertise considered important with regard to the subject matter of the post and the work duties it will involve. Demonstrated research and teaching expertise. Completed five weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning, or acquired equivalent knowledge by other means. 

Additional requirements:

  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.

Good ability to co-operate, independence and drive. Ability to actively, independently and successfully seek external funding Ability to contribute to innovation and regeneration of the organisation Ability to supervise/assist in the supervision of students at different levels Demonstrated progress towards good oral and written proficiency in Swedish.

Assessment criteria
When assessing the applicants, special importance will be given to research and teaching expertise. 

For appointments to senior lecturer, the following shall form the assessment criteria:
A good national and international standing as a researcher. The requirement for international experience shall be assessed with consideration to the character and traditions of the subject. Good teaching ability, including a good ability to conduct, develop and lead teaching and other educational activities on different levels and using a variety of teaching methods. An ability to supervise doctoral students to achieve a PhD. An ability to collaborate with wider society and communicate his or her activities. A good general ability to lead and develop activities.
