Post-doctoral position in innovation studies

Subject description

The candidate will conduct research in the field of innovation studies, in particular investigating the characteristics of normcritical and transformative innovation and the role of innovation policy in this process.

The candidate will undertake a qualitative bottom-up analysis of the innovation policy program “Genus och Mångfald för Innovation” funded by Vinnova (Swedish innovation agency) in order to further our understanding of the nature of normcritical innovations, the role of different actors in the process as well as the potential for policy making to enable these kinds of transformative innovations. The results of the analysis will be compared to other policy programs at Vinnova that aim at generating transformative innovations. The research will ultimately inform a more comprehensive analytical framework on transformative innovation policy.

The position will be part of two ongoing knowledge platforms at Lund University: The Swedish Transformative Innovation Policy Platform (STIPP) coordinated by Lea Fuenfschilling and The Role of Universities in Society coordinated by Mats Benner.

Work duties
The main duties involved in a post-doctoral posistion is to conduct research. Teaching may also be included, but up to no more than 20% of working hours. The position shall include the opportunity for three weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning.

Detailed description of the work duties:

  • Qualitative evaluation of the Vinnova program ´Genus och Mångfald för Innovation”
  • Research within the subject area of normcritical and transformative innovation
  • Bridging activities of two knowledge platforms at Lund University, e.g. by organizing joint seminar theories
  • Collaboration with Vinnova
  • Administration related to the work duties listed above

Qualification requirements
Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position, completed no more than three years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.

Relevant subject areas include innovation studies, science and technology studies, sociology, political science, gender studies, economic history, business administration or related fields.

Additional requirements:

  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Good reading proficiency in Swedish

Assessment criteria and other qualifications
This is a career development position primarily focused on research. The position is intended as an initial step in a career, and the assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their research qualifications and potential as researchers.

Particular emphasis will be placed on research skills within the subject.

For appointments to a post-doctoral position, the following shall form the assessment criteria:

  • A good ability to develop and conduct high quality research.
  • Teaching skills.

Experience within policy evaluation

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

Terms of employment
This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of a maximum of 2 years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral fellow”) between Lund University, SACO-S, OFR/S and SEKO, dated 4 September 2008.

The position will be located at CIRCLE, Department of Design Sciences, LTH.
