Your team
The Sample Environment and Detector Support (SEDS) team is operated by the Beamline Office group at the MAX IV Laboratory. SEDS is a small team that is dedicated to give technical support to beamlines for detector installations. SEDS operates a lab for offline tests and calibration of detectors, as well as, for mechanical and electronic work on the detectors before they are used at the beamlines. This lab also supports the detector experts at the Controls & IT (KITS) group in their work of interfacing detectors and test data-collection modes. In addition, SEDS keeps a stock of spare detectors and accessories for use at the beamlines.

MAX IV are looking for a new member to join the SEDS team for a leading role in hardware related detector support, ensuring that we have the necessary in-house knowledge for support, maintenance and procurement of stat-of-the-art detector system.

Your main work tasks will be

  • Plan and partake in the installation of the detectors, in collaboration with beamline teams and KITS.
  • Manage and develop the SEDS-lab test station for detectors.
  • Design and implement standards for detector commissioning and testing.
  • Take part in the detector commissioning.
  • Plan and take part in service and maintenance for the MAX IV detectors. 
  • Take part in detector procurements and project supervision.
  • Take part in the detailed design and engineering of the detectors, in collaboration with suppliers and the MAX IV Engineering group.
  • Take part in developing ancillary equipment, such as translation systems for detector movements at beamline experiment stations.

To be successful in this role you need to have the following qualifications

  • Engineering degree, or a PhD in a subject relevant to the position.
  • Demonstrated experience with detectors and control systems at synchrotron radiation sources, preferably from more than one facility.
  • Experience in managing complex instrumentation projects in all stages: i.e. planning, design, construction, procurement, commissioning, operation & maintenance
  • Working knowledge of 3D-CAD/CAM software.
  • A demonstrated ability to work independently, being service minded, take initiatives as well as having the ability to cooperate with different teams and functions
  • Excellent command of English, well-developed communication skills and team working skills

Below are seen as merits

  • Experience in instrumentation for X-ray imaging, X-ray spectroscopy, or X-ray diffraction research.
  • Experience with risk assessments and other safety-related documentation.
  • Experience in procurement processes.
