Lund University announces at least one position as senior lecturer in financial economics. The positions are full time, with placement at the Department of Economics, School of Economics and Management. The Department runs several master programs of which the MSc in Finance is ranked among the top 50 in the world by Financial Times.

Job description

The successful candidates must have proven competence and experience in the field of financial economics.

The positions involve both teaching (70%) and research (20%), and administrative tasks (10%) related to the courses taught. Teaching can be at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels. The responsibilities also include course coordination, independent research, and supervision of students at different levels.

The salary range is between SEK 480,000–600,000 per year depending on qualifications.

Qualification requirements

Qualified to be employed as a senior lecturer in financial economics is a person who has been awarded a Ph.D. degree in economics, finance, mathematics or statistics. The applicant must be able to demonstrate documented teaching experience in theoretical financial economics at advanced level, covering topics such as asset pricing, portfolio choice and modeling financial risks.

The positions include teaching in English and therefore requires a good command of the English language. The research environment at the Department of Economics is highly international and the working language of the Department is English. International applications are encouraged and language skills in Swedish are not required, but since teaching at the introductory level is in Swedish, language skills in Swedish is a merit.

The School of Economics and Management strives for a balance between research and teaching in all positions. Therefore, in the selection process equal weight will be given to scientific and pedagogical accomplishment.

In the overall evaluation of scientific skills, particular weight will be given to the applicant’s publications or potential to publish in the field of financial economics. The candidate should have either at least one publication in a journal ranked not lower than A or two published or forthcoming papers in any of the journals listed below.

The overall evaluation of pedagogical qualifications includes teaching experience and pedagogical skills. The department will favor candidates who can document successful teaching at advanced level in theoretical financial economics. Evaluation of teaching skills will be based on course evaluations, active participation in pedagogical development and assessments by colleagues with information about the applicant’s teaching activities. Teaching experience will be evaluated based on teaching hours and on the types of courses taught. The department offers a wide range of courses in economics, which means that ability and experience of teaching courses in economics outside the focus area (of theoretical financial economics) are also merits.

A Ph.D. degree or experience of two years or more at the post-doctoral level from outside of the School of Economics and Management is a strong merit.

If recruited, the candidate shall within two years have undergone courses in teaching and learning in higher education of at least 7.5 ECTS.
