Would you like to work at the brightest light source in the world?

We are looking for a postdoc with a strong scientific background in XAFS and XES spectroscopies to work at the Balder beamline.

Tasks
Our XES spectrometer (SCANIA-2D) is entering the user operation. You are expected to aid in the finalization of our XES spectrometer to make it quicker to operate and more user-friendly at energy change, alignment, calibration and data acquisition. Additionally, smaller scale development is needed, for example, measures for reduction of the scattered background, automation of crystal alignment and He refill. As part of the Balder beamline team you are expected to participate in support of external users, in maintenance and further development of the beamline. You are also expected to promote XAFS and XES at Balder by conducting your own or shared research. You should have an interest in synchrotron radiation instrumentation.

To be successful in this role you need to have the following qualifications

  • PhD in physics, chemistry, biology, materials science or related disciplines.
  • Knowledge and practical experience in XAFS spectroscopy methodology (sample preparation and data acquisition) and XES methodology
  • Profound skills in XAFS and/or XES data analysis
  • Strong track record of publications in X-ray spectroscopy
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken)
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong drive towards research publications

The following are considered as an advantage:

  • Experience in use or operation of hard x-ray synchrotron beamlines
  • Experience in hard x-ray optics and instrumentation
  • Good knowledge of Python language

The position opens an opportunity to gain experience of working at a large scale facility like the MAX IV storage ring. The daily work is varied and covers many technical aspects from vacuum technology, electromechanical control systems, robotics, computer science, cryogenics and many others. You will be joining an international team as they deliver a state-of-the-art beamline at MAX IV into user operation.

What we offer
When you join our MAX IV family, you step into a world of front edge science.
