MAX IV is a Swedish national large-scale research laboratory hosted by Lund University. It provides scientists from Sweden as well as internationally, with state-of-the-art instrumentation for research in areas such as engineering, physics, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually, conducting ground-breaking experiments in materials and life sciences using the brilliant X-ray light.

Your team
The Beamline Office is a group within the Science Division at MAX IV that consists of three teams that address different tasks and responsibilities. This summer work will mainly be in the X-ray optics team that define, build and maintain the X-ray mirrors, gratings, crystals, apertures and lenses used to shape and deliver the X-ray light to the experiment. The team also maintain a X-ray optics lab where we assemble and measure state of the art optical systems for MAX IV.

Your main work tasks will be

• Work in the x-ray optics lab to build and test a ‘carbon cracking’ UV cleaning system for soft x-ray mirrors.
• Build up the x-ray optics display.
• Basic improvements and maintenance in the lab organization, cleanliness and inventory
  
  

To be successful in this role you need to have the following qualifications

• Second year Physics or Engineering with interest in optics or x-ray science/technology.
• High school level, computer knowledge, technical interest.
  
  

As a person you are organized, take initiative and enjoy being ‘hands on’.

You must be minimum 18 years and fluent in English to apply to this position.
