Job Assignments
The doctoral students positions are mainly devoted to postgraduate studies (80% of the time), but include 20% department service, usually teaching. The position is announced based on new research grants. For research directions, see www.control.lth.se.

Eligibility
A person meets the basic eligibility for third-cycle courses and study programmes if he or she:

  • has beed awarded a second-cycle qualification, or
  • has satisfied the requirements for courses comprising at least 240 credits of which at least 60 credits were awarded in the second-cycle or
  • has acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad

A person meets the specific admission requirements for third-cycle studies in Automatic Control if he or she has:
1. knowledge corresponding to course FRT010 Automatic Control, Basic Course and a second cycle specialisation of relevance to the subject, or
2. an MSc in Engineering or corresponding qualification.

The applicant must also be deemed to have the ability to successfully complete postgraduate studies.

Additional eligibility:

  • Good skills in both spoken and written English.

Basis of assessment
Selection for third-cycle studies is based on the student’s potential to profit from such studies. The assessment of potential in accordance with the first paragraph is made primarily on the basis of academic results from the first and second cycle. Special attention is paid to the following:
1. Knowledge and skills relevant to the thesis project and the subject of study. These may be demonstrated through documents appended to the application and at a possible interview.
2. An assessment of ability to work independently and to formulate and tackle research problems. The assessment could be made on the basis of the student’s degree project and a discussion of this at a possible interview.
3. Written and oral communication skills.
4. Other experience relevant to the third-cycle studies, e.g. professional experience

In the assessment grades, certificates and references, but also, for example thesis and business experience, and the applicant's competence in current projects, will be considered. Important personal qualities are, beside creativity and a curious mind, the ability to work both independently and in a group and experience in the scientific interaction with researchers from other disciplines and in other countries. We give great importance to the applicant's interest in all duties for the employment and that the applicant is cooperative and willing to contribute to a good working atmosphere. 

Terms of employment
Only those admitted to third cycle studies may be appointed to a doctoral studentship. Third cycle studies at LTH consist of full-time studies for 4 years. A doctoral studentship is a fixed-term employment of a maximum of 5 years (including 20% departmental duties). Doctoral studentships are regulated in the Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100), chapter 5, 1-7 §§.
