The Department of Biology contains all biological research in Lund within neighbouring buildings, providing unique opportunities to create innovative education and research programs in biology. A total of around 300 people, of which about 80 are PhD students, work at the department. The Biological Museum hold one of the largest university collections of animals and plants in the world. Job description
The position entails research in the area of plant community ecology and evolutionary biology, with a focus on terrestrial ecosystems and the interface between community ecology and evolutionary biology, as well as teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels. Research will be conducted at least 50 % full-time. The work assignments of the position, as well as the relative proportions of research and teaching, may change over time.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop an active research programme which also includes applying for external funding and developing collaborations with other university units and governmental organizations.

Eligibility
Those qualified for appointment as a Senior Lecturer are a person who has demonstrated teaching expertise and been awarded a PhD or has the corresponding research competence (according to the Higher Education Ordinance chapter 4, section 4).

It is a requirement to have completed at least five weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning or acquired equivalent knowledge by other means. In certain cases, exceptions can be made from this requirement.

For academic staff at Lund University the general qualification requirements are to be suited to and having the general ability required to complete the duties of the post well.

Basis of assessment
Documentation of research skills within the field defined in the job description, above, is required. Documented research experience in plant community ecology and the processes that drive community assembly and biodiversity in terrestrial ecosystems is a strong merit.

The applicant should describe their current research themes and present a research plan for the next few years. The applicant should also indicate how their research will complement existing research within the Department. Scientific qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of the scope and quality of past research, including grants awarded, projects completed, and peer-reviewed scientific publications. A strong capability to obtain research grants in national or international competition is a requirement.

Documented experience of teaching at basic as well as advanced (including postgraduate) levels within the applicant’s own and adjacent fields is required. Development of new course curricula as well as experience of field-based teaching in floristics and vegetation analysis are strong merits. Documented experience of supervision of Masters and PhD students is also a merit. Documented experience in communicating science, and the societal values of research, is likewise a merit.

Importance will be attached as to how the applicant, through documented skills and experience, can strengthen and supplement the Departments´ research and teaching.

As much attention shall be given to the assessment of teaching expertise as to the assessment of research expertise.

It is expected that any non-Swedish speaking appointee within a three-year period will master the Swedish language well enough to be able to teach and to communicate with the university administration in Swedish.
