The subject of phonetics is taught at all levels of education and within several study programmes. In the first cycle, phonetics – in addition to general linguistics – is a subject within the field of linguistics. In the second cycle, phonetics is a specialisation within the department-wide Master’s programme in language and linguistics. The subject of phonetics is also included in the speech therapy programme at Lund University.
At the department, phonetics as a research subject currently comprises research in the following areas:
Some of this research is conducted in collaboration with research teams in linguistics and staff within the existing research infrastructure at the Humanities Lab. The available infrastructure (at the Humanities Lab) accommodates two Electromagnetic Articulography-systems, EEG, Eye-tracking-systems, Motion Capture-systems, a LARM-studio and Swe-Clarin among othersResearch collaboration also takes place with units at other Lund University faculties that offer MR imaging. In addition, the research activities are linked to other universities within and outside Sweden.
The professor of phonetics will be expected to take a leading role in research and third-cycle education in phonetics by developing already established research environments and research infrastructures. In addition, the professor will be expected to apply for external research grants and to represent the subject of phonetics nationally and internationally.
Furthermore, the professor will be expected to supervise doctoral students and teach phonetics but also other subjects at SOL in the first and second cycles.
Administrative tasks are included in the post. In accordance with the current agreement on working hours, the professor must be present at the workplace to the extent required by the activities and duties involved in the post.
If the successful applicant has a first language other than Swedish (Danish or Norwegian), she or he will be expected to have acquired sufficient knowledge of the Swedish language (spoken and written) within two years, to be able to teach in Swedish and actively participate in administrative and other relevant activities conducted in Swedish.
To be eligible for appointment as a professor, the person must have demonstrated both research and teaching expertise. The degree of their expertise constitutes one of the assessment criteria for the appointment of a professor.
To be qualified for appointment as professor, the applicant must have completed at least five weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning, or acquired the equivalent knowledge by other means.
