We seek a project researcher for work within the SITES Spectral Thematic Centre. The centre is located at the Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science at Lund University. The centre will carry out services to the scientific research stations included in SITES (http://www.fieldsites.se), and is tasked to collect, analyse, and disseminate data from the spectral data collection activities going on at the stations.

Jobassignment

The employee will carry out service according to the following:

  • UAV: Author instructions and provide to the stations’ data collection with drones and multispectral cameras. Analysis of compiled data with software for structure-for-motion, and generation of products (vegetation indices, DEM, orthophotos, etc.).
  • Fixed optical sensors: Organisation of data, control of data quality, instrument calibration, installation, data loggers, localising errors, etc.
  • Phenology cameras: Organisation and control of image data and computation of greenness indices.
  • Satellite sensor data: Development of time series data bases from optical systems (MODIS, Sentinel-2, Landsat) for the different stations.
  • Integration of data in GIS, generation of presentation materials, etc.
  • Metadata management and data storage in collaboration with the ICOS Carbon Portal
  • Information and web page management.

When needed the person will carry out UAV flights, and participate in information and collaboration concerning UAV activities at Lund University. The person is also expected to participate in the on-going research activities related to the centre.

Qualifications

Required qualifications as follows:

  • MSc or higher degree in physical geography, earth science, environmental physics, or corresponding field, including courses in digital remote sensing, management of satellite data, GIS, and image analysis.
  • Experience in written publication and documentation in Swedish and/or English. 

Additional qualifications:

  • Phd with focus on remote sensing.
  • Computer programming.
  • Experience in flying UAVs
  • Analysis of high-resolution imagery from airplane or UAV
  • Experience in spectroscopy and near-ground remote sensing
  • Driver’s license valid in Sweden.
  • Post-examination working experience.
