Lunds universitet, Naturvetenskapliga fakulteten, kemiska institutionen

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

A postdoc position is available in the laboratory of Ingemar André at Lund University. The André lab combines computational and experimental methods to understand the structure, interactions and evolution of proteins. More information at www.andrelab.org. The position is funded by a consolidator ERC grant where experimental and computational methods are developed to de novo design self-assembling protein structures. We are looking for a highly motivated experimentalist to join the research team.

Work duties

The postdoc will develop a high throughput assay for measuring the stability of proteins. The assay will be employed to carry out directed evolution of protein stability and to characterize the relationship between structure and sequence. The postdoc is also expected to take part in group activities and may participate in supervision of graduate and undergraduate students.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a PhD or equivalent in biochemistry or protein science or other relevant fields. Experience in molecular biology, protein expression and purification and characterization of protein stability with biophysical methods is required. Candidates should also have some experience in analyzing biological sequences. The candidate should be able to independently lead the experimental work in this project and interact smoothly and efficiently with the other members of the team with different backgrounds. As reporting in peer review journals is an essential part of the project, a publication record with high quality first-author publication(s) is required and the candidate must be fluent in English (written and spoken). Motivation and drive will be important selection criteria.

Specific experience with one or more of the following represents an advantage:

  • Protein design
  • Mutagenesis
  • Fluorescence spectroscopy
  • Flow cytometry
  • Fluorescence activated cell sorting
  • Next generation sequencing
  • Writing scripts for analyzing protein sequence data
