Three positions as Associate Senior Lecturer in Medical Research

The position is timed limited to four years with the possibility for promotion to Senior Lecturer.The position is located within the Faculty of Medicine. Departmental placement will be determined at the time of appointment.

Job description
The position as associate senior lecturer is to enable the holder to attain qualifications in teaching and research. The duties mainly comprise research and research supervision, but an associate senior lecturer is also to gain qualifications in teaching so opportunities for at least five weeks of training in teaching and learning in higher education will also be offered. Other duties may also be included.

Qualifications
According to Chapter 4, Section 12a of the Higher Education Ordinance and local collective agreement on career development reg. no PE 2013/365, a person is qualified for appointment if the applicant holds a PhD or has corresponding research expertise. Priority should be given candidates who have completed their degree or achieved the corresponding competence no more than 7 years before the last date for applications.

Basis for assessment
The successful candidate to become one of the future research leaders at the Medical Faculty.

The candidate will be evaluated with regard to: 1) Research expertise. 2) Teaching skills 3) Leadership and 4) External engagement

The focus of the assessment will primarily be on research expertise and secondly on teaching skills.

The assessment will also take into account the applicant’s personal suitability and assessed ability to attain qualifications required for promotion to a senior lecturer position within the timeframe of the appointment as associate senior lecturer.

Specific assessment criteria are given below:
1) Research expertise
Research expertise is demonstrated through postdoc periods (a particulary merit is if the postdoc period is conducted internationally or within a new area), publications in highly ranked research journals, funding received in competition with others, experience of supervision, potential for development and research programmmes.

2) Teaching skills
Teaching skills is demonstrated through the ability to plan, develop and conduct teaching

3) Leadership
Leadership is demonstrated through documented administrative and organization skills including leadership

4) External engagement
External engagement is demonstrated through the ability to cooperate with the wider society.

Promotion to Senior Lecturer
An Associate Senior Lecturer is to be appointed on application to a permanent position as Senior Lecturer if he or she has required qualifications and is deemed to be suitable with reference to the qualifications and assessment criteria for promotion and appointment as Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine.
