Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

The Boreal forest is the largest forested biome on Earth and has a major effect on climate system by altering e.g. surface albedo, surface roughness, and exchange of energy and gases. While carbon pools and fluxes in boreal forests have had much attention since the 1990’s, other trace gases (e.g. CH4, N2O) have been addressed only recently. For reactive trace gases like ozone and biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOC), relatively few data sets are available, despite those being major players in atmospheric chemistry acting as precursors for secondary organic aerosol (SOA), and thus partly controlling cloud formation processes and climate feedbacks. Furthermore, the existing data on ecosystem scale BVOC emission from boreal forest is geographically and climatically very limited. This PhD project will concentrate on the emission from mature forest stands.
