The specialisation Studies in Faiths and World Views comprises studies in ethics, philosophy of religion and systematic theology. Third-cycle studies are conducted in the subjects of philosophy of religion and ethics, and systematic theology. The research in ethics and philosophy of religion addresses ethical and philosophical problems associated with religion and secular world views. Systematic theology involves study of the development and present-day significance of Christian traditions of thought and, to a limited extent, also Jewish and Muslim theologies.

The work duties comprise up to 70% teaching, at least 20% research and professional development, and at least 10% administration and collaborative tasks. The position includes teaching, assessment and research within the specialisation as a whole, with emphasis on systematic theology and philosophy of religion. The teaching also comprises course directorship and course administration as well as supervision of papers and degree projects.

In addition, the work duties involve actively applying for external research funding, as well as following those developments in their own subject area, and in society in general, which are relevant to the senior lecturer’s work at the University.

To be eligible for appointment as a senior lecturer, the person must have

  • a PhD or equivalent research expertise or other professional expertise of significance to the subject and the work duties involved in the post,
  • demonstrated teaching expertise, and
  • completed at least five weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning, or have acquired the equivalent knowledge.

 The general assessment criteria are:

the degree of research, teaching, administrative or other expertise of relevance to the subject and the work duties involved in the post, as well as a personal ability in general to successfully execute the work duties.

The specific assessment criteria that apply for a post as senior lecturer are:

  • good national and international standing as a researcher,
  • good teaching skills, which means a good ability to conduct, develop and lead teaching and other educational activities at different levels of study and using different teaching methods,
  • the ability to participate in the supervision of doctoral students up to the attainment of a PhD,
  • the ability to engage in wider society and inform others of his or her activities, and
  • the ability to lead and develop the department’s activities in general.

Special emphasis will be placed on:

  • broad experience in teaching faiths and world views, especially systematic theology and philosophy of religion
  • experience in supervising doctoral students
  • teaching expertise and/or experience from teacher training in the field of religious studies
  • administrative experience such as leadership assignments, organisation of graduate school, etc.
  • documented good interpersonal skills
  • demonstrated ability to obtain external research funding

The language of instruction is primarily Swedish, but some teaching in English will occur, which is why applicants must have an ability and willingness to teach in both languages. The successful applicant will be expected to be fluent in Swedish within two years.
