CIRCLE is an interdisciplinary center for innovation research spanning several faculties at Lund University. Our aim is to understand and explain how innovation can contribute to a good society and tackle societal challenges like economic crises, climate change or increased globalization of economic activities. This aim requires advanced insights into how knowledge is created and diffused in organizations, networks, regions, countries, and globally; how knowledge is turned into innovations; and which societal conditions promote the creation and diffusion of innovation.

CIRCLE is looking for at least one project assistant specialized in data analysis for the project “Sweden’s position in Global Value Chains”. The project assistant will work at CIRCLE.

Work duties

  • The most important tasks are the building and analyzing of large firm-level datasets focused on multinational firms’ activities in Sweden and abroad.
  • He or she will be involved in tasks related to the above mentioned project.
  • He or she will perform empirical analyses aimed at understanding the process of structural change among Swedish businesses.
  • The assistant will also help building up and analyse new databases on the international operations of Swedish multinational companies.

Qualifications

  • Completed master degree in Economics or related disciplines in social sciences.
  • Good ability to work with large quantitative data and knowledge of statistical softwares, in particular Stata.
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • The candidate(s) should be sufficiently at ease with dealing with high number of firm-level observations and being able to identify macro patterns, with a focus on firms’ innovation activities.

Other merits

  • Knowledge of other statistical softwares for the analysis of large datasets.
  • Experience of work with micro-data provided by the Swedish Statistical Office (MONA - Microdata delivery system)
  • Economic understanding of the innovation dynamics at the firm and individual level
  • Ability in writing for both academic and policy-oriented type of papers in English

We will place great emphasis on personal suitability. Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, motivation and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen the administrative work within the unit/department, as well as contribute to its future development.

Terms of employment

1 year (12 months) contract. Starting date: as early as possible, but negotiable. Part-time position: up to 80% employment.
