Lund University, Faculty of Engineering, LTH, Matematikcentrum, LTH

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

The image analysis group at the centre for mathematical sciences at Lund University conducts world-leading research in structure from motion estimation, i.e. how to automatically from a number of images calculate both where the camera was located when the picture was taken as well as a 3d model of the scene in the pictures. Many of our graduates move on to major companies such as Apple, Google, Microsoft, Sony and Ericsson.

In a joint research project with Sony Mobile in Lund, we now require a researcher with such a profile. The project is important for our own research as well as generating new questions. The researcher will conduct most of the department's work in the project, but will have support from some of the more senior faculty members. There will be regular follow-up meetings with representatives from Sony Mobile.

Work description

The work consists (among other things) of

  • Developing methods and algorithms for three dimensional reconstruction of deformable objects from multi-view stereo and RGB-D data.
  • Computer implementation of these methods and algorithms.
  • Collaboration with companies and society. The work will be done in close collaboration with Sony Mobile.

Qualification requirements

Appointment as a researcher requires that the applicant has:

  • Ph. D. degree in mathematics or related subject.
  • Very good, well documented, knowledge of computer vision.
  • Programming experience in Matlab, C++ and/or similar programming languages.

We also value experience with reconstruction of deformable objects and experience writing program code in C++ for structure from motion estimation.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

Conditions
The position is full-time (100%) and time limited to 12 months with a possibility of prolongation if the project continues. Starting date May 1, 2018 (negotiable).
