Department of Experimental Medical Science

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

Job assignments

Our research group at the Department of Experimental Medical Science - Lund University is looking to fill a postdoctoral researcher position (m/f) in full-time with the main focus on sphingosine-1-phosphate signaling during hypertension.

Our interdisiplinary group concentrates on the investigation of cellular signaling pathways and pathophysiological mechanisms, which underlie changes in vascular homeostasis during hypertension. To identify potential target structures for new therapies, we study cellular functions in transgenic models of vascular dementia using a wide arry of in vivo, in vitro and ex vivo methods. We offer a Project in a motivated international research team, the possibility to apply state-of-the-art techniques and the possibility of Project-related research stays with our collaborative partners abroad.

The position holder will participate in a research project to investigate the involvement of S1P-mediated inflammatory responses during hypertension in mice. The project will mainly engage the use of the following techniques: in vivo work in mouse models (incl. hypertension models, cell injections, different treatment routines, blood pressure measurements), ex vivo examinations of different tissues using histological, biochemical and immunological methods, in vitro studies of different cell types using biochemical and immunological methods. The successful applicant is expected to independently design and perform experiments, run statistical analyses, interpret the data and present the results through publications and at international meetings.

Qualifications

Requirements

PhD in Medical Sciences

Solid knowledge in S1P signal transduction and proven experience in the investigation of inflammation-related signaling (e.g., S1P chemotaxis, T-cell activation and migration, STAT3 activation, G-protein signaling etc.).

Previous practical experience in work with research animals (incl. hypertension models, blood pressure measurements, cell injections, different treatment routines such as oral treatment, i.p. injections, tail vein injections, intracardiac injections, intratibial injections in mice), and the ability to independently perform extensive cellular and molecular analyses of different murine and human tissues are required.

Good English language skills (speaking and writing) are required.

Merits

Desirable techniques include Western blotting, qPCR, EMSA, IP, Transfections, Luciferase Assay, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry and cell culture.

Previous experience with microscopy, in vivo imaging approaches as well as statistical analysis (such as GraphPad and proficiency in the programming language R) is considered to be a merit. Interest in international exchange is strongly encouraged.
