The Lund Gothenburg Responsibility Project (LGRP) is a 10-year project (ending in 2025), directed by Professor Paul Russell. The project is based at the universities of Lund and Gothenburg, and in Lund at the Department of Philosophy. LGRP engages postdocs, doctoral students and prominent visiting researchers, and hosts conferences, workshops and other research activities. LGRP’s ambition is to become a leading research centre within its field.

LGRP conducts research on moral responsibility and free will within the areas of action theory, normative ethics, metaethics and legal responsibility. For more information about LGRP, please visit https://grp.gu.se.

The postdoc is to participate in, and contribute to, the research environment, including by actively participating in research seminars and other ongoing research activities in the subject and project, and thereby stimulate the theoretical discussion on the themes of the project, contribute with their own studies in the field, and help initiate new research ideas and projects. The postdoc will be expected to conduct their research primarily at their workplace in Lund. Teaching, supervision and other tasks related to teaching may be included within the scope of the position but at no more than 20% of the total number of working hours.

To be eligible for appointment as a postdoc, the person must have obtained a PhD, or an equivalent international degree, no more than three years prior to the application deadline. If the degree is more than three years old, the applicant must submit a certificate of parental leave, leave due to illness etc. together with their application. The person is also required to have documented proficiency in English.

The assessment criteria include a sound ability to develop and conduct research of good quality, as well as teaching skills. In the appointment of a postdoc, major emphasis is placed on the applicant’s research ability. To enable the assessment of qualifications, applicants are to submit a plan of the research they intend to conduct within the scope of their appointment. Only applicants whose research plan and previous work could strengthen the research team and the project as a whole will be considered for the position of postdoc.

Priority will be given to applicants with an academic background in the research area of the project, that is, in fundamental and analytical questions regarding moral responsibility and free will (broadly conceived).

The application must include the following:

- A signed complete CV and certified copy of a doctoral degree

- List of publications (including ISBN and ISSN numbers)

- Signed research plan of no more than 1 500 words (excluding list of references) of the research project the applicant intends to conduct during the period of employment

The research plan is to contain the following:

• Project description (issue and summary)

• Theory and method

• The project’s relation to leading international research

• Key international research within the field

• The applicant’s expertise and qualifications with regard to the project

• Time plan and expected project results

NB! The applicant is responsible for making sure that the application is complete, in accordance with the instructions above, as well as for scanning the application (as one PDF file) and submitting it to the University by the application deadline through the recruitment portal.
