The Department of Electrical and Information Technology (EIT) at the Engineering Faculty (LTH) of Lund University, is one of the larger departments with about 130 employees. We are located at the LTH campus in northern Lund, and conduct research and education, mostly in electrical engineering and computer engineering.

As a Research Engineer you will be part of the technical staff at the department, who is responsible for all technical support and development work in our education and research activities. Together with the administrative staff you are about 10 people.

The research lab at EIT is mainly used by our research groups in Integrated Electronic Systems, Communications Engineering, Nanoelectronics, and Electromagnetic Theory. There are also some external users from other departments and local industry. The lab is intended to be able to verify integrated circuits, manufacture circuit boards, prototypes, antenna solutions, handle measurements involving wave propagation and scattering etc. We work with frequencies from DC up to around 100 GHz, using instruments like signal generators, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, probe station, bonding machine, circuit board milling machine, climate chamber, RF shielded room, millimeter wave setups on an optical table etc. We have many international coworkers and collaborations, so English is used on a daily basis.

Work duties
We are looking for a research engineer with primary task to have an overall responsibility for our research lab. You are also responsible for large parts of the department’s physical infrastructure and act as support to our lab for basic education. Some teaching duties can occur.

Among the duties are:

  • Develop, provide, and maintain rules and priorities for the use of the research lab.
  • Education and support concerning the equipment for the users of the lab.
  • Management of a database and booking system for the Equipment.
  • Support the lab users when developing experimental setups.
  • Routine service and preventive maintenance of Equipment.
  • Purchasing coordinator for the department’s procurements.
  • Work with vendors for technical assistance and support.
  • Storage and service of electronic components and spare parts.
  • Management of our outreaching lab activities with external users (LTH OpenDoor).
  • Together with the other technical staff take manage the department’s physical infrastructure such as keys, furniture, access systems, room layout, work environment etc.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education, preferably MSc Engineering, in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or similar.
  • Strong knowledge of basic instruments and equipment in an electronics lab.
  • Experience with troubleshooting, installation and maintenance of technically advanced Equipment.
  • Good ability to express yourself in English, both in speech and writing.

Other merits:

  • Ability to express yourself in Swedish, both in speech and writing.
  • Experience with RF equipment, particularly spectrum analyzers and vector network analyzers.
  • Experience in public procurement.
  • Good understanding of safety risks and preventive safety work.
  • Knowledge of regulations for the working environment.
  • Experience with teaching at university level.
