Lund University, Faculty of Science, Department of Physics

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

The Division of Synchrotron Radiation Physics (www.sljus.lu.se) is a part of the Department of Physics and has more than 40 employees. A strong focus of the research is experimental studies of electronic, structural and chemical properties of materials using synchrotron radiation, advanced lasers as well as high resolution Scanning Probe microscopy in combination with nanoscale engineering.

We would like to hire a researcher in the direction of surface structure determination of model catalysts and in situ studies of catalytic reactions under industrially relevant conditions using a combination of several lab and synchrotron-light based methods. The reaction which will be in focus is hydrogenation of CO2 and NH4 oxidation over model catalysts. A large part of the work will be done at the MAXIV laboratory in Lund and DESY/PETRA III in Hamburg.

Work description

The work includes structure determinations and reaction studies of model catalysts, such as oxide films on single crystalline metals and powder samples are included in the work. As the experiments generate a significant amount of data, a large amount of data analysis including programming is included in the work. Independent development work of advanced experimental equipment as well as of software is included in the work. The work includes a significant amount of travel, production of research reports and presenting research work at scientific conferences. Some supervision of PhD students is to be expected in the work.

Qualifications

Required

  • A PhD in physics/chemistry/nano science.
  • Very good knowledge in English.
  • Documented scientific work and scientific production.
  • Experience in synchrotron radiation work with an emphasis of surface science.

Meriting

  • Experience with situ high energy surface x-ray diffraction and ambient pressure XPS, oxide growth and gas handling/reactivity is a merit.
