Job Assignments
We are looking for an ambitious political scientist in the beginning of her/his career who aims for a future career as university lecturer and researcher. The term for this position in Swedish is “biträdande lektor”. The official translation is Associate Senior Lecturer. The position is the equivalent to what in the American university system is called Assistant Professor.
The successful candidate will conduct research and teach political science at undergraduate and graduate levels. The position includes a minimum of 50 percent research and a maximum of 50 percent teaching and possibly administration which should relate to and strengthen BECC’s research profile.
The successful candidate will conduct independent research and enjoys the freedom to choose his or her own research questions, develop his or her own theoretical ideas, and choose the most appropriate methods, but will be expected to dedicate most of this research towards questions that fall into the thematic scope of BECC in the following ways:
Eligibility/Entry Requirements
o be eligible for the position as Associate Senior Lecturer, the prospective candidate must have been awarded a PhD in political science or have the corresponding research competence at the time of application. Only those candidates are eligible who have been awarded a PhD within five years prior to the deadline for application. Applicants must also be able to demonstrate documented teaching skills. Proficiency in English and to be able to teach in English is a requirement. Ability to conduct independent research and to participate in international research collaboration is a very important eligibility criterion.
Basis of Assessment
The assessment will put weight on (a) research skills, documented through post-doctoral progression and publication in international journals; (b) ability to conduct research independently and to develop research in collaboration with colleagues, domestically as well as abroad; (c) capacity to contribute to BECC’s research program’s overall goals; and (d) teaching experience and pedagogical skills.
Promotion
An associate senior lecturer may, on application, be promoted to permanent employment as a senior lecturer. The application must be submitted to the Faculty of Social Sciences no later than 3 years and 6 months after the date of appointment. The applicant’s eligibility and suitability for such employment will be assessed through a review of the progress they have made during their appointment with regard to research and teaching, focusing on the following criteria:
In the assessment of qualifications for a senior lectureship, equal attention will be paid to the applicant’s teaching and research expertise.

The applicant shall also provide (e) a research proposal on his/her contribution to the BECC research program along the abovementioned criteria (approx. 3-5 pages).
