The Faculty of Medicine is a part of Lund University, and is responsible for education and research within medicine and healthcare. Our academic programs are closely linked with the healthcare system and are firmly anchored in the faculty’s strong research tradition. Our research spans a broad field within experimental preclinical research, near-patient clinical research and health sciences research. The Faculty of Medicine, with its 1,800 employees and 2,700 students in Lund and Malmö, is a knowledge-intensive meeting place for students, teachers and researchers from all over the World.
National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Sweden (NBIS; http://nbis.se), is furthering life science research in Sweden by providing support and developing infrastructure in the field of bioinformatics. Over 60 experts are currently employed at multiple sites in Sweden, supporting projects in a wide array of areas such as genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, statistics, and more. NBIS also constitutes the bioinformatics platform at SciLifeLab (http://www.scilifelab.se), a national resource which facilitates research in molecular biosciences by providing access to advanced technologies and technical know-how. With the close connections to data-producing facilities and daily interactions with leading research groups, NBIS is perfectly positioned to enable world class bioinformatics analyses.
NBIS is now looking for two new members to support Swedish researchers in advanced bioinformatics projects. The two positions are full time and placed at Medicon Village, Lund University. One position will be affiliated with the Department of Laboratory Medicine at the Medical Faculty and one with the Department of Immunotechnology at the Technical Faculty.
The successful applicant will be integrated in a vibrant bioinformatics team, with many opportunities to further improve current skills as well as develop new skills to keep up with novel sequencing technologies and other bioinformatics challenges as they emerge.
Work duties We are looking for experts that will participate primarily in next-generation (NGS) or third generation sequencing (e.g. long read sequencing) data analysis, but also in other types of bioinformatic analyses. The work involves supporting Swedish researchers in this field under a “fee for service”-model. The projects will differ in complexity and can involve any organisms, including human/mouse but also non-model organisms. Depending on the expertise of the applicant, projects could be involving, but are not limited to, RNA-Seq, single cell transcriptomics (scRNA) as well as genomics and other omic techniques. Responsibilities include running analyses, communication with research groups, staying aware of current developments in the field, writing reports, and occasionally being involved in bioinformatics training for the Swedish research community. Regular meetings and internal training as well as time for developing new skills and learning from a diverse group of NBIS colleagues ensure that the bioinformaticians at NBIS can carry out cutting edge bioinformatics analyses.
