Strategic Communication is about the study of deliberate communication initiatives taken by organisations to achieve their overall goals. The research is to highlight, create an understanding of and critically review the communication processes that control and shape the organisations in our society. Strategic Communication is based on internationally established research in public relations, organisational communication and market communication, and can be explored from a social, organisational and individual perspective.

Work duties
The duties involve both teaching and research. Administrative tasks are also included to a certain extent, and may be expanded to more comprehensive managerial and administrative tasks if necessary and appropriate. The post involves teaching in both Swedish and English, in the first and second cycles of study. At present, the department offers three study programmes: the Master’s Programme in Strategic Communication, the Bachelor’s Programme in Strategic Communication and the Bachelor’s programme in Strategic Communication and Digital Media.

In addition to supervising and teaching in the first and second cycles, the holder of the post is to take responsibility for the development, management and administration of first- and second-cycle courses. In view of the department’s focus on continuous development, interest in educational development and reformation is key. At least 20 per cent of the post consists of research and professional development activities. The applicant must be able to work independently and actively as a researcher, and will be expected to contribute to the joint research environment at the department.

In the position entails teaching in strategic communication, public relations, digital political activism, critical digital media studies, research methods, communication planning, and supervision of student research projects. The ability to teach in English is a requirement.  

Qualifications
To be eligible for appointment, the applicant must hold a PhD or the equivalent international degree in a relevant subject area. Furthermore, the applicant must have completed at least five weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning. The applicant must also be able to demonstrate documented teaching expertise and experience in both teaching and research in the field of Strategic Communication.

Assessment criteria
In the assessment of research and teaching expertise and experience, priority will be given to experience in Strategic Communication or related subjects. Of certain merit, is research and teaching on digital activism.

When assessing the applicant’s research expertise, special emphasis will be placed on the applicant’s research activity (scope/quality), ability to initiate and independently conduct research, documented ability to obtain research funding in national competition, and demonstrated ability to engage in the research community.

The applicant’s teaching expertise must be well documented. When assessing the applicant’s teaching expertise, the primary focus will be on the quality of their teaching. Importance will also be attached to the scope of their teaching, in terms of both breadth and depth. Furthermore, emphasis will be placed on the applicant’s documented ability to plan, initiate, lead and develop teaching, and their skills in linking their teaching to research. In the assessment of teaching expertise, the applicant’s documented ability to contribute to the development of higher education teaching, and to the quality of education, will also be taken into account.

Furthermore, the applicant’s ability to engage in wider society, and to communicate research and development work, will be taken into account. Professional experiences in strategic communication are considered a qualification.

The Department of Strategic Communication is a small department where collegial cooperation and the contributions of each individual are very important. Emphasis will therefore be placed on the applicant’s interpersonal skills and initiative, and, on the basis of their experience and expertise, their potential to complement and contribute to the department’s ongoing and future education, research and external engagement.
