Job assignment
The research is primarily intended to focus on problems in the theory of random normal matrices and on more general Coulomb gas ensembles in two dimensions. Also one-dimensional processes (Hermitian eigenvalue processes etc) are relevant. These topics are part of a lively area of research, which offers possibilities to work on a broad range of problems within pure and applied analysis, for example within potential theory, operator theory, multiplicative chaos, conformal field theories, and others. The research project will therefore offer some flexibility for the successful candidate to pursue their own research interests.
Qualifications
You should have a strong background in mathematical analysis and a good knowledge of probability theory. Previous experience within some area related to the project, for example in random matrices, is a bonus. Candidates with a PhD degree within mathematical analysis, or in relevant branches of other subjects such as probability theory or mathematical physics will be prioritized. Examples of relevant areas are the study of point processes in probability, conformal field theories in physics, etc. You should have the ability to plan and carry out research of high quality and this should be reflected in your publications. You should also be motivated, have initiative, be able to work independently and in groups, and be perseverant. Good knowledge of spoken and written English is a requirement.
Eligibility
Appointment to a research position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position, completed no more than six years before the last date for applications. Advanced graduate students who can be expected to finish the PhD before the time of appointment are also eligible.
Basis of Assessment
The assessment will primarily be based on your research qualifications and potential as researcher, and of your potential to fit the project’s research profile. The quality of your publications plays a very big role, but the description of your previous research and future research plans is also important. At a possible interview, your ability to orally present your research will be tested. In addition, the assessment will be based on the qualifications mentioned above.
Type of employment
This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of a maximum of 1 year.
Application procedure
Apply online! Applications must contain a letter in which you describe your previous research, future research plans and interest in the position (max 3 pages). Applications must also include a CV, list of publications, contact details of at least two references, copy of your doctoral degree certificate and/or other certificates/grades that you wish to be considered. You are encouraged to attach an electronic copy of your PhD thesis if possible. All documents must be in PDF format.
