Work duties
The appointment as associate senior lecturer includes teaching and research within the subject area of translational neuroscience and psychopathology, i.e. using basic (behavioral) neuroscience to improve our understanding of, and psychological treatments for, mental health problems. Other teaching assignments may also be included. Teaching is conducted at all levels. Teaching duties include responsibility for courses, examinations, supervision, and course administration. Teaching duties will amount to a maximum of 50 per cent of the position.

The appointment as associate senior lecturer is intended as a career development position allowing the holder to qualify for teaching positions for which the eligibility requirements are higher.

Period of employment
The position as associate senior lecturer can be held for a maximum of four years, with the opportunity for promotion to senior lecturer.

Qualifications
Pursuant to the Higher Education Ordinance, those qualified for the employment are individuals who have been awarded a PhD or have attained equivalent research competence, and who meet the requirements for teaching expertise. Preference is given to those who were awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence no more than five years prior to the expiry of the application period.

Applicants are to have a documented ability to teach in Swedish. Documented proficiency in English is beneficial.

Grounds for assessment
In the selection process, particular importance will be attached to research expertise within the relevant subject area (translational neuroscience in a psychological/psychiatric context). The research and teaching expertise of the applicants will mainly be assessed from a qualitative perspective. A quantitative advantage in a candidate will thus not be decisive in the selection process.

The applicant should be able to provide documented experience of research within the subject area, including: 1) learning theory/cognitive models of psychopathology, particularly fear/anxiety/depression;

2) using methods from basic behavioral neuroscience to better understand the etiological and maintaining factors in anxiety and, preferably studies with obvious implications for the psychological treatment of such problems; 3) studies that recruited participants from a clinical (psychiatric) context or participants with difficulties of potential clinical significance; 4) evidence of having worked with clinical psychologists to carry out research in the relevant subject area; 5) experience of writing grant applications and/or a history of securing research funding within the subject area, particularly grants involving research collaboration with clinical psychologists; and 6) data-based publications in the subject area in international, peer-reviewed journals, some of which should be first-authored and some published in journals with high impact factors.

The applicant should be interested in teaching and course management within the subject area (and more widely in psychology). Documented experience of teaching is beneficial, it is not mandatory.

Promotion
An associate senior lecturer can, on application, be promoted to employment as a senior lecturer. The application is to be submitted to the Faculty of Social Sciences at the latest after 3 years and 6 months of employment. Eligibility and suitability for such a position are assessed, focusing on the following criteria:

Well-certified research expertise. Special emphasis will be placed on international publication. Documented ability to formulate research applications for external funding. Well-certified teaching expertise. Particular emphasis will be placed on a documented ability to conduct teaching and supervision at various levels and on the development of the quality and scope of the candidate’s teaching skills over time. Training in teaching and learning in higher education to the extent required for qualification as a senior lecturer. Progression in academic leadership skills through an increased ability to develop, lead and implement education and research. Good ability to cooperate with wider society.

Proficiency in Swedish at the level required to carry out common work duties within for research, education and administration.

Teaching expertise
Teaching expertise refers to qualifications in education and teaching, whose assessment will primarily consider educational quality in the form of an educational philosophy and an ability to create good conditions for student learning. The extent, in terms of both breadth and depth, of teaching expertise will also be taken into account.

Administrative expertise and experience of external engagement are significant for appointment and will be taken into consideration. Administrative expertise is proven by the ability to plan, organise and prioritise work in an efficient manner, adapted to the stated purpose. Importance will also be attributed to the ability to interact both within the discipline and with wider society is of importance. All qualifications are to be documented, so as to allow assessment of both quality and scope.

In this recruitment, the University will primarily consider candidates who, after a qualitative holistic assessment of skills and expertise, are deemed to have the best conditions to perform and develop the relevant work duties and contribute to a positive development of the organisation. Priority will be given to the person who shows the greatest expertise in a comprehensive assessment, taking into account the time in which the total qualifications have been accumulated. Personal circumstances (e.g. parental leave) which can be credited to the applicant in the evaluation of qualifications should be stated in connection with the presentation of qualifications and experiences.

The recruitment group may use interviews, trial lectures and references. The applicant is therefore to submit a list of reference persons who can testify to the applicant’s professional skills as well as their personal qualities of significance to the position.
