Post-doctoral position in Innovation Engineering, with a specialization in open innovation tools

Subject description

The research on open innovation holds that an organization can accelerate its innovation processes and expands its markets by using a combination of internal and external knowledge. The use of open innovation has mainly penetrated into ICT-related industries, e.g., open source software but now also being introduced into several other industries, as many organizations discover that their business may benefit by collaborating with open source software. Still the development, adaptation and use of so called open innovation tools are emerging and the research is still in its infancy. The objective for this post-doctoral position is to investigate and develop the use of organizations’ open innovation tools in their product innovation processes as well as to develop open innovation theory.

Work duties

The main duty involved is to conduct research in the area of open innovation tools. Teaching, including the opportunity for three weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning, as well as teaching in  first, second and third cycles of studies, and executive programs will be included up to 20% of working hours. The teaching includes course teaching and supervision of master degree and doctoral students. The post doc is expected to collaborate with industry in relation to his/her research and actively seek external research funding related to the research. Duties also include administration related to the work duties listed above as well as taking part in the department’s and division’s joint activities.

Qualification requirements

Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position, completed no more than three years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.

Additional requirements:

  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Experience of collaborating with industry on open innovation tools.

Assessment criteria and other qualifications

This is a career development position primarily focused on research. The position is intended as an initial step in a career, and the assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their research qualifications and potential as researchers.

Particular emphasis will be placed on research skills within the subject.

For appointments to a post-doctoral position, the following shall form the assessment criteria:

  • A good ability to develop and conduct high quality research.
  • Teaching skills.

Additional assessment criteria:

  • Experience of collaborating with industry related to the research area, e.g., workshops with open innovation tools.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

Terms of employment
This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of a maximum of 2 years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral fellow”) between Lund University, SACO-S, OFR/S and SEKO, dated 4 September 2008.
