The Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts is one of eight faculties within Lund University and includes Malmö Art Academy, Malmö Academy of Music and Malmö Theatre Academy, also Inter Arts Center and Choral Centre South. The Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts offers Bachelor and Master programs in visual art, music and drama, and various courses of different extent. The Faculty also runs third cycle (postgraduate) studies in artistic research and music education.

Professor of Artistic Research in Music

The position is for a fixed term of five years.
Scope of employment: 75%.
Starting date: 1 March 2019 or according to agreement.
Interviews are scheduled for week 4, January 2019.

Subject description
Direction and development of Artistic Research in Music and the doctoral programme in Music at Malmö Academy of Music.

Work duties
The position as professor of Artistic Research in Music entails
- planning, coordinating and directing Artistic Research and Third Cycle Studies in Music at Malmö Academy of Music,
- responsibility for the development of the research environment,
- planning and organizing the supervision of PhD candidates, PhD seminars, part time seminars and dissertations,
- supervising PhD candidates,
- teaching in 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycle programmes and developing the Bachelor and Master thesis at the Performance programmes,
- planning and carrying out seminars and conferences,
- representing artistic research at Malmö Academy of Music by participating and strengthening the Academy in national and international research networks,
- cooperating with research programmes in Lund University and other universities, nationally and internationally,
- strengthening the collaboration between undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels and between the research programmes in Music and Music Education at the department,
- initiating boundary-crossing and transdisciplinary collaborations within Lund University and with other universities,
- initiating new research applications and projects,
- conducting research in the area of artistic research in Music,
- publishing academic and artistic outputs.

Qualification requirements
For the position as professor in Artistic Research in Music, the following qualification requirements apply
- Master degree in Music or other higher education in Music,
- a PhD in artistic research in Music or other equivalent discipline,
- docent qualification or equivalent competence,
- documented pedagogical skills from higher education level,
- documented artistic skills at international level,
- substantial amount of academic and artistic publications,
- leadership experience,
- excellent language skills in English, both spoken and written,
- documented experience of supervision and teaching at PhD level,
- five week course in teaching and learning in higher education or documentation of equivalent experience.

Assessment criteria
The following assessment criteria apply for a professor in artistic research in Music
- Research and artistic activity, output and experience on a very high level, nationally and internationally. International merits are evaluated with respect to both the applicant’s profile and the character and tradition in the field of Artistic Research in Music. Artistic excellence of international standing and a clear relation between the academic and artistic practices constitutes a very important component in the assessment. 
- Excellent pedagogical skills, which involves the capacity to conduct, lead and develop the research programme and other pedagogical activities at different academic levels and with varying methods. 
- Experience and good ability to supervise PhD candidates up to dissertation, and students at Bachelor and Master levels to artistic independence. 
- Leadership capacities, which involves leading and developing the research programmes and other activities. This requires skills in communication and cooperation in combination with capacity to strengthen the subject of Artistic Research in Music at the department.
- Good ability to interact and communicate with the surrounding society. This involves the experience of national and international networks of artistic activities and research.
- Excellent capability of working independently. 

Good collaborative skills, commitment and independent initiative count as important qualifications. Based on experience and competence, the successful applicant is expected to continue to strengthen Artistic Research in Music at the department and contribute to its future development, nationally and internationally. 

Further qualifications
Experience of working with artistic research/transdisciplinary networks nationally and internationally is an asset.  

Preparedness to acquire proficiency in the Swedish language during the first two years, or knowledge of the Swedish language.

Regular attendance at the workplace is a requirement.
