Lund University, Faculty of Medicine, Dep of Laboratory Medicine, Lund

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

The division of Translational Cancer Research and the laboratory of Chris Madsen is looking to hire a post doc. The main focus of the group, is to try to understand how cancer spreads through the body (a process called metastasis) as this is responsible for over 90% of cancer-related patient deaths. Metastasis is strongly influenced by the physical and chemical properties of the tumour microenvironment. The group studies how cancer cells move through this remodeled environment and aim at targeting intrinsic mechanisms of cancer cell motility as well as the mechanisms underlying the tissue remodeling. Our group use advanced microscopy to understand metastatic progression and tissue remodeling i.e. using 2-photon microscopy, multispectral optoacoustic tomography and ultrasound. We take a multidisciplinary, integrative approach to perform high quality translational cancer research with collaborative partners world-wide.

Work duties
The post doc will undertake work to validate a new anti-metastatic drug candidate in breast cancer. The project will cover both in vitro and in vivo experimentation and have two major aim: 1) peri-nuclear cytoskeletal re-organization during cell migration in confined environments and 2) peri-cellular matrix degradation during cancer cell migration and metastasis of breast cancer. The post doc will also help to develop specific matrix-degradation probes for the application of multispectral optoacoustic tomography (MSOT) imaging, a non-invasive whole animal imaging modality. This part will be in tight collaborations with other researchers of the group. Moreover, the postdoc will co-supervise and be responsible for the practical training of students in our group, and be in charge of the practical training and guidance of our fluorescence imaging platform. The postdoc will also actively collaborate with scientist outside the field of biology incl. nanotechnology and physics.
