Work duties

The holder of this position will mainly work on a research project pertaining to the development, characterization and validation of ex vivo models of chronic lung disease. The main work responsibilities involve designing and conducting research pertaining to the project and includes obtaining, analysing and managing data acquired for the project. Further, the holder of this position will be responsible for writing of high quality, academic papers to be submitted to international journals. The majority of this work should be done independently and in collaboration with both internal and external members of the team. The position also entails mentoring of doctoral and masters students

Qualifications

Necessary Qualifications

  • PhD (or equivalent) in biomedicine, molecular medicine, bioengineering, or biotechnology from no more than three years ago
  • Experience with conventional and advanced microscopy, including three-dimensional imaging and their analysis (e.g. confocal, deconvolution, digital light-sheet and holographic microscopy)
  • Ability to carry out independent and high-quality research as documented through the thesis and peer-reviewed publications
  • Experience with data handling and analysis, including statistics
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency in English
  • Experience in mentoring and/or supervision

In addition to the above qualifications, the desired qualifications are as follows:

  • Background in toxicology and drug pharmokinetics
  • Experience with generating and use of precision cut lung slices from animal and human sources, including handling of animals
  • Experience with cell culture and molecular biology techniques (e.g. qPCR, western blot, ELISA)
  • Experience with glycobiology techniques
  • Knowledge and experience in macrophage phenotyping
