The doctoral (PhD) studentship is placed at the Cardiovascular Research – cellular metabolism and inflammation with labs at the Clinical Research Centre (CRC), a dynamic and inspiring research environment on the Skåne University Hospital Malmö Campus. The research group collaborates closely with scientists and research groups in experimental and clinical cardiovascular research and diabetes research.

We are looking for a curious, goal-oriented, organized and dedicated individual who wants to train to become a research scientist. The applicant should have a scientifically, medically or biomedically oriented university education.

Work duties

The doctoral studentship will involve studies of how immune cells reprogram their cellular metabolism to support inflammation and atherosclerosis development. The doctoral studentship may involve flow cytometry, cell culture, immunohistochemistry, image analysis, gene expression analysis, ELISA, tissue sampling, statistics, data analysis and more. The project may also involve statistical analysis in clinical patient materials and multivariate data analysis.

Qualifications

In order to assess the ability of the applicant to benefit from and to assimilate the doctoral education, academic and practical skills and the ability of the applicant to cooperate, work independently, express themselves in speech and writing, performing calculations, organize and plan, as well as personal qualities such as curiosity, commitment, motivation, focus, drive, scientific principles, values, confidence in their own ability and common sense will be taken into account.


Eligibility
Students with basic eligibility for third-cycle studies are those who- have completed a second-cycle degree- have completed courses of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits are from second-cycle courses, or- have acquired largely equivalent knowledge in some other way, in Sweden or abroad.

The employment of doctoral students is regulated in the Swedish Code of Statues 1998: 80. Only those who are or have been admitted to PhD-studies may be appointed to doctoral studentships. When an appointment to a doctoral studentship is made, the ability of the student to benefit from PhD-studies shall primarily be taken into account. In addition to devoting themselves to their studies, those appointed to doctoral studentships may be required to work with educational tasks, research and administration, in accordance with specific regulations in the ordinance.
