The position as a doctoral student in migration medicine and integration  is located at the Center for Primary Health Care (CPF). The CPF is a dynamic research platform at the Clinical Research Centre (CRC), a vibrant and inspiring science environment in Malmö's beautiful hospital area. The CPF is a collaboration between Region Skåne and Lund University.

The research at the CPF is funded by ALF funds Region Skåne, National Institutes of Health (NIH), the European Research Council (ERC) and the Swedish Research Council. The CPF's overall mission is to carry out world-leading research within primary care as an active exchange of knowledge between academia and primary care. The research is conducted in collaboration with researchers at Swedish and international universities, dealing with major chronic diseases: cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes and psychological ill health, as well as women’s and children’s health and the health effects of migration and socioeconomic disadvantage. The research activities extend throughout Skåne via a number of general medical knowledge centers (AKCs) at the whole region's primary health care centers.

We are looking for a well-qualified doctoral student with an interest in how migration affects integration and mental health. The position is located within Professor Jan Sundquist's research team. The research group has a long-term collaboration with several leading international universities, such as Stanford University, Mt Sinai, and Kyoto. This employment as a PhD student in migration medicine and integration will be financed within the framework of an ERC advanced grant.

Work duties

The research education in migration medicine and integration is suitable for a broad range of disciplines (e.g. public health, medical science, criminology, economic history, and national economics) and provides a doctoral degree in public health science / medical science that comprises 240 högskolepoäng, which is equivalent to four years’ full-time university studies. The education ends with the doctoral student defending their doctoral dissertation at a public defense. The focus of this doctoral employment is how migration affects integration and mental health. You are expected to contribute to the issues raised in the project, which is supported by the ERC. This happens via work with several large and unique epidemiological data sources that originate from the national population and health records in Sweden. The doctoral student’s scientific articles will be published in international peer reviewed journals.

Qualifications

Special eligibility for admission to the position has been awarded to a graduate of advanced level in, for example, public health, medical science, criminology, economic history, and national economics or in another form, either within Sweden or abroad, have acquired equivalent education to the same level. Furthermore, the applicant should have excellent English in both spoken and written form, which is equivalent to English B at upper secondary school in Sweden (gymnasiet).

Eligibility
Students with basic eligibility for third-cycle studies are those who- have completed a second-cycle degree- have completed courses of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits are from second-cycle courses, or- have acquired largely equivalent knowledge in some other way, in Sweden or abroad.

The employment of doctoral students is regulated in the Swedish Code of Statues 1998: 80. Only those who are or have been admitted to PhD-studies may be appointed to doctoral studentships. When an appointment to a doctoral studentship is made, the ability of the student to benefit from PhD-studies shall primarily be taken into account. In addition to devoting themselves to their studies, those appointed to doctoral studentships may be required to work with educational tasks, research and administration, in accordance with specific regulations in the ordinance.
