Job description

A position leading to a PhD degree will be available in the area of soft condensed matter and biophysics. We shall study structural and dynamic properties of concentrated solutions of proteins and other biomacromolecules as well as their dominating interaction forces, aggregation phenomena and liquid-solid phase transitions. The final goal is to design high concentration edible systems for food materials with tailored mechanical and optical properties.

The experimental work will concentrate in particular on measuring rheological properties of concentrated protein solutions and mixtures, primarily using microrheological techniques and on the structural features of these systems.

Here, in order to cover all relevant length scales, we will combine a variety of scattering techniques (such as Small-angle X-ray and Neutron Scattering and Static Light Scattering) with different microscopic techniques including Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy, SEM and TEM.

Qualifications

Above average university degree in Physical Chemistry, Nanoscience, Materials Science or equivalent. Documented knowledge on Colloid and Interface Science and Scattering Techniques and experimental experience such as a master degree project in at least one of these subjects.

Applicants should send their Curriculum Vitae with a cover letter describing their motivation and referring to the qualifying questions. The CV and cover letter should be written in English.

Excellent Swedish skills are an advantage.
