Post-doctoral position at The Centre for Environmental and Climate Research - Hiring in process/Finished, not possible to apply

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) assessments of the science related to climate change provide the scientific basis for the international climate negotiations and climate related efforts on other arenas. In 2015, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), in conjunction with the Paris Agreement, asked the IPCC to do a scientific assessment of the knowledge on global warming of 1.5 degrees. The IPCC subsequently produced a special report (SR15), which was published in October 2018. The report drew great attention and will inform the continued international and national efforts on climate change. The report coincides with major changes in climate policy and the recognition of the increasing urgency and challenge of dealing with climate change. SR15 is an arena for studying how the IPCC evolves in these new framings and, how it best can continue to inform the ongoing climate policy. The project also aims to highlight the role of SR15 in scientific and political contexts, whose voices are heard in the processes and how the report has been interpreted since the publication.

Tasks
The project combines social science perspectives on the IPCC with broader knowledge of climate science and work at the science / policy interface. The project will focus on the development of the IPCC and the needs, obstacles and opportunities that exist for it. The project uses documentary analysis, interviews and questionnaires, with a focus on relevant scientists and experts, societal stakeholders, climate negotiations, and other actors. The postdoctor is expected to cooperate and collaborate with other research groups in Lund University and contribute to the development of interdisciplinary science, especially in environmental science and between environmental science and the social sciences. The postdoctoral project will follow the project plan underlying the position.

Qualification requirements
Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position, completed no more than three years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.

Qualifications
- PhD in environmental science, with a focus on the international science / policy interface
- Masters degree with, interdisciplinary studies; experience of working on both natural science and social science approaches to climate change/environmental issues
- Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English
- Familiarity, and experience with research methods for documentary analysis, interviews and questionnaires
- Good collaboration skills, ability to work independently and capacity to finish activities in time.

Meritorious
- Previous participation in IPCC and UNFCCC meetings
- Working knowledge of Swedish
- Experience in teaching/courses supervision in both the social and environmental sciences

Terms of employment
This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of a maximum of 2 years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral fellow”) between Lund University, SACO-S, OFR/S and SEKO, dated 4 September 2008.
