Job description
Applicants are invited to apply for a position as biostatistician of the bioinformatics unit at LUDC. Currently, the unit consists of 10-12 individuals (including bioinformaticians, a genetic statistician, a data manager, a computer engineer, and an IT-data manager). Approximately half of the personnel is embedded in the various research groups and directly managed by the different LUDC PIs. The applicant will be part of the core bioinformatic unit, the task of which is to provide bioinformatic/biostatistic support to all researchers within the LUDC environment. The successful applicant will be the main provider of biostatistics needs and is expected to interact with LUDC researchers on a regular basis.
The applicant is expected to have excellent communication skills, a willingness to interact with other researchers and to contribute to the common goals of the centre.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates are required to have:
A PhD in Biostatistics and post-doctoral experience
Documented evidence of excellent biostatistics and computational skills, including experience in multivariate analysis and mathematical statistics.
Experience of research in the field of Diabetes and its Complications.
Extensive knowledge of designing and analysing studies involving large cohorts of diverse types including but not limited to longitudinal and case-control studies.
Experience of working with databases
Experience of working in Unix, Linux and Windows environments
Extensive knowledge of programming language R. Knowledge of additional programming languages (e.g. Perl, Python) is desirable.Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Other preferred skills:
Experience of working in an international environment
Experience from work with microarray and next generation sequencing data
Experience of work with biomarkers
Teaching experience
