The Centre for Mathematical Sciences seeks one to two senior lecturers in mathematics with focus on analysis, placed at the Division of Mathematics LTH and Numerical Analysis. The call aims to strengthen our teaching in mathematics and to develop our research in mathematical analysis.

Subject description

The research focus shall be a specialisation in mathematical analysis that strengthens one (or more) of the division’s current research groups in complex analysis, spectral theory or dynamical systems.

It should be clearly stated in the application how the applicant’s current research relates to the division’s research environment in mathematical analysis, and how the applicant’s plan for future research will develop the existing environment. 

Work duties

Work duties include

  • Research within the subject area.
  • Teaching in the first, second and third cycles of studies.
  • Supervision of degree projects and doctoral students.
  • Actively seeking external research funding.
  • Administration related to the work duties listed above.

Qualification requirements

Appointment to senior lecturer requires that the applicant has

  • A PhD or corresponding research competence or professional expertise considered important with regard to the subject matter of the post and the work duties it will involve.
  • Demonstrated teaching expertise.
  • Completed five weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning, or acquired equivalent knowledge by other means, unless there are valid reasons.

Additional requirements

  • Good oral and written proficiency in Swedish and English. 

Assessment criteria

When assessing the applicants, special importance will be given to research and teaching expertise within the subject, assessing research and teaching expertise equally. 

For appointments to senior lecturer, the following shall form the assessment criteria

  • A good national and international standing as a researcher. The requirement for international experience shall be assessed with consideration to the character and traditions of the subject. Special consideration will be given to how the applicant’s expertise can strengthen the division’s current research in mathematical analysis.
  • Good teaching ability. The assessment of the pedagogical skills will be based on documented achievements teaching first, second and third cycles of studies, a good understanding of learning processes as well as good abilities to lead, stimulate and cooperate with teachers and students.
  • An ability to supervise doctoral students to achieve a PhD.
  • An ability to collaborate with wider society and communicate his or her activities.
  • A good general ability to lead and develop activities.

Consideration will also be given to ability to cooperate, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research, education and innovation within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.
