Subject
Water Resources Engineering. 

Subject description
The specific subject of this position is one or more of the three topics listed below.

1) Effects of climate change and climate variability on water resources, use of water resources, and hydrological processes.

2) Remote sensing, including both ground-based and satellite-based techniques, as applied to analysis of water resources, use of water resources, and hydrological processes.

3) Urban hydrology including for example hydraulic modelling, study of nature-based solutions and the interaction between urban planning and water.

Work duties
Employment as an associate senior lecturer is a career development position and aims for the holder to develop her or his independence as a researcher and educator. The work duties mainly involve research, teaching and active seeking of external funding. This, initially 4-year, position includes five weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning.

Working duties include:

  • Research within the subject area
  • Teaching in the first, second and third cycles of studies
  • Supervision of degree projects, and co-supervision of doctoral students
  • Actively seeking external research funding
  • Collaboration with industry and wider society
  • Administration related to the work duties listed above 

Qualification requirements
Appointment to associate senior lecturer requires that the applicant has

  • a PhD, or acquired corresponding research expertise.

 Priority should be given to applicants who have completed their degree or acquired the corresponding expertise no more than five years before the last date for applications.

Additional requirements:

  • PhD in a relevant field
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English
  • Experience as post doctor or relevant experience from industry and/or public sector
  • Experience of other research environment than where the applicant will be active

Assessment criteria
For appointment to associate senior lecturer, the following are the main assessment criteria:

  • Ability to develop and conduct research
  • Teaching skills

Other assessment criteria:

  • Strategic thinking in relation to TVRL’s research areas and own research, which should be demonstrated in the candidate’s application (in section D1 of the application).
  • How well the candidate’s expertise fits into the TVRL research profile, see Subject description
  • Ability to co-operate in multidisciplinary groups as well as to work independently
  • Ability to initiate and run projects
  • Ability to attract external funding
  • Quality and relevance of existing professional networks

Consideration will also be given to how the applicant would complement and strengthen ongoing research, education and innovation within the division, as well as contribute to its future development. 

Terms of employment
This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of 4 years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with Chapter 4 Section 12a§ HEA.

Promotion to senior lecturer in Water Resources Engineering
During the period of employment, an associate senior lecturer can apply for promotion / appointment to a permanent position as senior lecturer. If (s)he has the required qualifications listed below, and is deemed suitable, promotion will take place. An associate senior lecturer can only apply for promotion once. 

Qualification requirements:
Appointment to senior lecturer requires that the applicant has:

  • A PhD or corresponding research competence or professional expertise considered important with regard to the subject matter of the post and the work duties it will involve.
  • Demonstrated teaching expertise.
  • Completed five weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning, or acquired equivalent knowledge by other means.

Additional requirements:

  • Good oral and written proficiency in Swedish.
  • Demonstrated ability to co-operate, especially in multidisciplinary groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated ability to actively, independently and successfully seek external funding
  • Demonstrated strategic development of own research and teaching expertise
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute in research and teaching at the TVRL
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise/assist in the supervision of students in all three cycles of higher education

 

Assessment criteria
When assessing the applicants, equal importance will be given to research and teaching expertise.

For appointments to senior lecturer, the following shall form the assessment criteria:

  • A good national and international standing as a researcher. The requirement for international experience shall be assessed with consideration to the character and traditions of the subject.
  • Good teaching ability, including a good ability to conduct, develop and lead teaching and other educational activities on different levels and using a variety of teaching methods.
  • An ability to supervise doctoral students to achieve a PhD.
  • An ability to collaborate with wider society and communicate his or her activities.
  • A good general ability to lead and develop activities.
