Work duties

The work duties of the position cover both research and teaching, while some administrative duties may also be included.

The teaching duties will largely be within the Faculty’s interdisciplinary Master’s programmes at the Faculty of Social Sciences. The teaching will primarily be focused on quantitative analysis in the second cycle, although teaching in the first and third cycles may also be included. Secondary duties may include strategic development and supporting research projects including quantitative analysis. The position includes 20 per cent research.

The successful candidate is expected to contribute actively to the positive development of the education and research environment at the faculty and the department. The successful candidate will be placed either at the Department of Sociology or at the Department of Psychology.

Qualifications

To be qualified for the position, candidates must hold a doctoral degree in sociology or psychology or have equivalent research expertise. The applicants are also to demonstrate documented teaching expertise, as well as a minimum of five weeks’ completed training in teaching and learning in higher education or equivalent knowledge acquired in some other way. Teaching expertise is to be well-documented in such a way as to enable an assessment of the quality of the candidate’s work.
Applicants are to be able to demonstrate documented teaching experience in one or another of the common software for quantitative analysis.

The successful candidate must be able to teach in English; excellent skills in both written and spoken English are therefore essential. The applicant is to be able to demonstrate documented experience of teaching in English.

The ability to teach in Swedish is a desirable qualification.

Grounds for assessment

Equal importance is attached to research expertise and teaching expertise.
In the assessment of research expertise, particular emphasis will be placed on research activity (scope/research quality), the ability to initiate and independently conduct research, documented ability to obtain research funding in national competition, as well as proven ability for interaction within the research community.

Teaching expertise is to be well-documented. In the assessment of teaching expertise, educational quality will be the primary criterion. Scope, in terms of both breadth and depth, will also be significant. Furthermore, a documented ability to plan, initiate, lead and develop teaching, as well as the ability to link teaching to research will also be considered important. A documented ability to contribute to work concerning the development of higher education teaching and learning and educational quality is included in teaching expertise. International teaching experience is an additional qualification.

Particular emphasis will be placed on educational skills, including the ability to train, organise and develop teaching in quantitative methods. Furthermore, emphasis will be placed on skills in advanced quantitative methods (e.g. multi-level modelling, time series analysis, structural equation modelling, Bayesian statistics, etc.). Experience of teaching in various software programs for quantitative analysis is an additional qualification.

Importance is also placed on administrative skills.

Furthermore, the ability to interact with wider society and to communicate about research and development work will be taken into account, as well as experience of research collaboration with wider society and academic institutions in Swedish and international contexts.
