Lund University announces a 3-month research assistantship in cognitive semiotics with a specialization in polysemiotic communication, 100% from 1 June to 31 August, at Centre for Languages and Literature, Lund University.  

Cognitive Semiotics at Lund University is a relatively new discipline, combing theories and methods from semiotics, linguistics and cognitive science, in the transdisciplinary study of meaning and sense-making.

Job description:
The assistantship is part of the Swedish Research Council-project POLYSEM: Polysemiotic communication: Integrating language, gesture and depiction in three cultural practices. The tasks will include (a) data collection of Paamese oral narratives in Vanuatu, and (b) transcription, translation, and annotation of linguistic data from native speakers of Paamese on the software for multimodal analysis, ELAN, in collaboration with Paamese consultants. During the first week of the position, training in the tasks will take place at SOL-centre, in parallel with preparations for the data collection.

Criteria:
Applicants must have a BA degree in linguistics, good command of ELAN, conversational skills in Paamese, native-like proficiency in both French and English (spoken on Paama island as third languages), and demonstrated understanding of the ethical requirements involved in working with indigenous communities.
