The Department of Geology (see ‘geology.lu.se’) currently has c. 40 faculty members, 26 PhD students and c. 25 technical/administrative staff. At the department, research and education is conducted within the entire field of geology. The advertised position is tied to the palaeobiology group, which studies the evolution of life at both macro and micro scale.

Job assignment
The position is within the palaeobiology research group at the Department of Geology, which has close collaborations with other teams and laboratories at Lund University, including researchers at the Department of Biology. Main tasks include the development of further interdisciplinary collaborations with the aim of exploring the history and evolution of life on Earth, and thereby strengthening the geobiological and geochemical research at the department. The position corresponds to 40% of full time and is limited to eight months.

Qualifications
Required skills:

  • Completed higher education in geology (PhD)
  • In-depth experience of geochemistry, tissue biology, and experimental design, including problem statement, sampling, laboratory work, data analyses, and rhetoric
  • Be fluent in written and spoken English
  • In-depth knowledge of geobiological methods that would increase existing competence at the department, e.g. iron speciation and isotope analyses, and oxygen sensing and GFP tracing in tissue of modern animal tissue
  • Vast experience in applying for external grants
  • Considerable experience of establishing and maintaining interdisciplinary networks and collaborations, both at national and international level

Desirable skills:

  • Solid theoretical background in biology
  • Fluent in written and spoken Swedish
  • Skills in both teaching and outreach
