Project description
A researcher position at the postdoctoral level is available to develop and implement literature searching techniques, research reporting repeatability methods and meta-analytic statistical modelling across a range of disciplines including biological and medical sciences. The quantity of information across all fields is rapidly expanding both from experimental studies and studies mining online databases. Systematically synthesising the results and data from these studies in a quantitative framework is becoming ever more important in order to draw robust conclusions from active research fields and to direct future research efforts.
Job description
The person hired will work with Charlie Cornwallis and be based in the Microbial Ecology and Molecular Ecology Group (MEMEG), at the Department of Biology, Lund University. The project will include extensive literature searches, data synthesis techniques including effect size calculation, PRISMA reporting (preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses), textual analysis, and phylogenetic meta-analyses. Much of the analyses will be conducted in R and integrated with online search engines. The researcher will also take the lead in writing manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.
Required qualifications
The applicant must have a PhD in evolutionary biology that was completed no more than three years before the deadline for applications. A successful track record of publishing in evolutionary biology in leading scientific journals as demonstrated by first-author publications is also required. Documented extensive experience of literature reviews, data extraction from published studies, effect size calculation, and advanced data manipulation, plotting and statistical analysis in R are required. Detailed knowledge of bird and insect social behaviour, as well as previous postdoctoral experience, are also important merits.
PhD in evolutionary biology.
