Work assignments
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist to join a large collaborative project encompassing five labs from the Faculty of Medicine, Lund University, Sweden that is funded by the Swedish Research Council. The project addresses fundamental mechanisms that govern the host-bacteria interactions underlying the phenotypic transition from asymptomatic colonisation to infection and sepsis, with the aim to develop novel biomarkers and therapeutic tragets. As a member of this group, the postdoc will gain access to an established scientific network with state-of-the-art technologies and will regularly interact with PIs, postdocs and graduate students from the member groups.

The specific research position will involve characterisation of local and systemic immune responses to the common sepsis pathogens Streptoccoccus pyogenes, Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae in in-vitro and in-vivo models. A particular focus will be on innate immune responses mediated by neutrophils, platelets, moncytes/macrophages and the complement system. This knowledge will facilitate improvement of biomarkers of disease progression and identification of therapies based on dysregulation of the innate immune response. The candidate should be able to work independently, and develop alternate experimental strategies when necessary. The research group is embedded in a multidisciplinary and highly collaborative research environment within the Division of Infection Medicine (about 70 people), as well as many collaborators within and across the faculty.

Qualifications and Requested skills
Candidates should have working experience in all of the following subjects:

  • PhD in Immunology, Microbiology or similar research field
  • Practical experience with experimental models in mice
  • Flow cytometry
  • Immunohistochemistry and microscopy
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.

Eligibility/Entry Requirements

This is a qualifying appointment with primary orientation in research. The position is as an initial step in career and ranking of qualified applicants will be based on their scientific merits and future potential as scientist.

Please submit your application online with curriculum vitae, including complete list of publications, academic records, along with a description of past research experience and accomplishments, and a list of two references.
