Lund University, Faculty of Medicine, Dept. of Translational Medicine

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

This position, aimed to provide useful qualifications, is placed at the department of translational medicine in the research group for medical radiation physics. The research group has received a grant from the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) to conceive models for how areas affected by nuclear fallout can be restored in an optimum way, taken radiation dose, economic costs and social acceptance into consideration. One part of this project, entailed in this position, is to develop computational models for how external radiation doses can be averted by means of decontamination procedures.

Assignments

  • Perform computer simulations of various irradiation geometries relevant for nuclear fallout scenarios in urban areas
  • Perform computer simulations of the detector response of various measurement systems dedicated for long-term monitoring of affected populations in terms of personal and environmental radiation doses
  • Perform computer simulations of averted radiation doses from various types of decontamination procedures, and to benchmark these computations with experimental data
  • Actively participate in teaching and exercise assignments organized by either the university or within international frameworks of cooperations
  • Teaching assignments and development of course material related to computer simulation for radiation dosimetry

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree (PhD) in physics related to environmental radioactivity or equivalent doctoral degree is required
  • Good experience in computer simulations and modelling of external radiation fields are highly valued
  • A record of principal authoring of peer reviewed articles is valued

Conditions of employment

This is a fixed-term employment of two years in accordance with union agreement regarding fixed-term postdoctoral employments (dated September 4, 2008).

The salary will be based on the Faculty of Medicine's recommended entry salaries for employees who have recently defended their doctoral thesis (STYR 2018/1095).

Start date will be the earliest possible convenience.
