Lund University hereby announces two vacancies for the position of senior lecturer in human rights studies located until further notice within the Division of Human Rights, Department of History.

The work duties include teaching and supervision at all levels on the undergraduate degree programme in Human Rights Studies, the Master’s programme in Human Rights Studies and freestanding courses at the Division of Human Rights. Duties may also include teaching and supervision on the PhD programme. The Division of Human Rights has a collaborative way of working, which means that a good ability and willingness to work in a team is valued highly. The successful candidate is expected to actively participate in development of courses, programmes, research and external engagement. An interest in pedagogical development and the potentials of multidisciplinary environments is valued highly. Ability to teach in both Swedish (or Danish or Norwegian) and English is a requirement.

The position includes time for research, which the successful candidate is expected to dedicate to his or her own research and publications. All staff are expected to contribute to the subject’s research environment, e.g. through participation in seminars, development of research networks and applications for research funding.

The division particularly seeks expertise within the following areas: socio-economic rights, discrimination, international politics, political theory/philosophy, ethics, gender issues, civil society agents, as well as methods and methodology in the humanities and social sciences.

For appointment as a senior lecturer, the individual must have:

• been awarded a PhD or have the corresponding research expertise or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will involve,
• demonstrated teaching expertise, and
• completed at least five weeks of training in teaching and learning in higher education or acquired equivalent knowledge by other means.

General assessment criteria: the degree of research, teaching, administrative and other expertise that is of value in view of the work duties and subject matter of the post as well as other personal skills of relevance to perform the duties well.

For employment as senior lecturer the following is specifically required:

• a good national and international standing as a researcher,
• good teaching ability, including a good ability to conduct, develop and lead teaching and other educational activities at different levels and using a variety of teaching methods,
• an ability to participate in supervising doctoral students to achieve a PhD,
• an ability to cooperate with wider society and to communicate his or her activities as well as otherwise leading and developing activities.

 Desirable qualifications:

• documented knowledge of human rights as a multidisciplinary subject and research field, and
• previous experience of and documented skills in teaching in human rights, specifically within any of the aforementioned areas of expertise, from beginner through to advanced levels,
• research and publications within any of the aforementioned areas of expertise with a specialisation in human rights,
• documented good ability to work in a team with several members of teaching staff as well as a good ability for collaboration with other staff in the workplace,
• demonstrated ability to obtain external funding and act as a research leader,
• documented experience of and good ability in course directorship and pedagogical development work,
• documented experience of teaching and supervision of Phd students,
• documented completion of ten weeks of training in teaching and learning in higher education.
