Project description
Title: Freshwater biodiversity in a changing climate
Freshwater biodiversity is under pressure from multiple global and local stressors. In temperate waters, climate change related stressors interact with land use and eutrophication pressures to create highly uncertain outcomes for biodiversity and ecosystem services (ES). We are therefore looking for a postdoctoral fellow within a project aiming to enhance scientific understanding on:
The project is based in Lund, Sweden and is part of an international collaboration within the project LimnoScenES which is a Biodiversa and Belmont Forum (EU-commission) funded cooperation between Sweden, Germany, and Canada. The overall aim is to co-develop scenarios that acknowledge the complex and continuously changing nature of ecological and societal goals. Specifically, the successful applicant for this position will focus on how climate change and other large-scale stressors will affect ecosystem function in freshwater ecosystems and identifying critical feedbacks between ecological and social dynamics. Altogether, this project aims at advancing our understanding of freshwater ecosystem functioning in a changing environment, but is also expected to support water authorities in their development of adaptive measures against current and future stressors, as well as for managing trade-offs and synergies among multiple ecosystem services based on freshwater biodiversity.
Requirements
As a successful applicant you will have a PhD degree in limnology, freshwater ecology or environmental science. Scientific experiences within areas such as wetland ecology, climate change, brownification and experimental methods are strongly encouraged. Some experience within social science or a knowledge of social-ecological systems modelling is a merit, but not a firm requirement. Excellence in scientific writing and in oral communication is, however, a prerequisite for the position. As a result of the international character of the project, the successful applicant should be prepared to spend shorter stays abroad. Driving license is necessary since a considerable part of the studies will be performed at different field sites.
