CIRCLE (Centre for Innovation Research and Competence in the Learning Economy) is an interdisciplinary research center spanning several faculties at Lund University. CIRCLE was established by the vice-chancellor in 2004. Since 2018, the center is part of the Department of Design Sciences at LTH.

CIRCLE's mission is to conduct research and contribute to basic, advanced and postgraduate education in innovation, effects of research and development (R & D) and innovation on growth, studies of regional, national and technological innovation systems, sustainability and public policy in the area of innovation, R & D and competence.

Subject

The position is a senior lecturer in innovation studies with specialization in the experimentally organized economy.

Subject description

Sustainable economic development and growth is, to a significant extent, a matter of experimentation in order to develop new sources of value creation, i.e. innovation. Innovative and entrepreneurial experiments continuously lead to new combinations and mutations of business ideas, technologies and organizational solutions in the experimentally organized economy. An improved understanding of the functioning principles of an experimentally organised economy can contribute to better decision-making at the level of economic decision-makers as well as better policies strengthening the regulatory and institutional infrastructure. “Entrepreneurial experimentation” increases technological and market experimentation, as well as policy experimentation within the economic system. Without experimentation any system – technological and/or regional - will stagnate.

Work duties

Detailed work duties include:
• Research within the subject area
• Teaching in the first, second and third cycles of studies
• Supervision of degree projects and doctoral students
• Actively seeking external research funding
• Collaboration with industry and wider society
• Administration related to the work duties listed above

The ambition of CIRCLE is to facilitate excellence in research, and the main part of the time should be spent on research. 50% of the will be spent onresearch funded by CIRCLE research grants. For the rest om the time, the holder of the position should attract external funding for additionalnresearch and/or teach - in English or Swedish - at CIRCLE or at other parts of Lund University.

Qualification requirements

Appointment to senior lecturer requires that the applicant has:
• A PhD or corresponding research competence or professional expertise considered important with regard to the subject matter of the post and the work duties it will involve.
• Demonstrated teaching expertise.
• Completed five weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning, or acquired equivalent knowledge by other means, unless there are valid reasons.

Additional requirements:
• Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
• Core competence in Innovation Studies
• Proven ability to attract external funding

Assessment criteria

When assessing the applicants, special importance will be given to research and teaching expertise within innovation studies, especially to academic qualifications in research.

Since the research is to be conducted at CIRCLE, which is a cross-disciplinary research environment, it is a merit to have experience of work in interdisciplinary environments.


For appointments to senior lecturer, the following shall form the assessment criteria:

• A good national and international standing as a researcher. The requirement for international experience shall be assessed with consideration to the character and traditions of the subject.
• Proven ability to publish internationally in high level refereed journals
• Good teaching ability, including a good ability to conduct, develop and lead teaching and other educational activities on different levels and using a variety of teaching methods.
• An ability to supervise doctoral students to achieve a PhD.
• An ability to collaborate with wider society and communicate his or her activities.
• A good general ability to lead and develop activities.

Other qualifications:

Proven academic qualifications in research on innovation/innovation systems/innovation policies, research on entrepreneurship/SMEs and/or research on the organization, economics and policy of R&D. Preference will be given to applicants with competence and interest in more than one of these sub-fields.

Consideration will also be given to ability to cooperate, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research, education and innovation within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.
