The Centre for Environmental and Climate research at Lund University is seeking a highly motivated PostDoc within the FORMAS-funded project Land4biomass, which is a four-year interdisciplinary assessment of the production potential of agricultural biomass and policy instruments to promote a fossil-free society while meeting food production and environmental objectives. The core task of the postdoc will be to develop future scenarios for bioenergy, food and other agriculture-based products. This will be done in an iterative process with key stakeholders from industry, farming and public administration as well as through literature surveys and interviews. The Postdoctoral position will hold a central place in project Land4biomass. The post-doc will tie together the different disciplinary areas, activities of the other researchers hired in the project (including two PhDs), and lead the generation and publishing of syntheses. The scenarios will form the basis for assessing policy and management alternatives, and will present numerous opportunities for the PostDoc to publish and communicate their research.

Postdoc hosts will be Johanna Alkan Olson and Yann Clough (both at CEC), with mentoring roles by Emily Boyd (LUCSUS) & Pål Börjesson (LTH, Environmental and Energy Systems Studies).

Qualifications
requirements

  • PhD in environmental sciences, social sciences, geography or similar
  • Significant experience working with quantitative and qualitative social science methods
  • Experience in developing and analysing results from stakeholder workshops
  • Significant expertise in interdisciplinary land-use science
  • Significant knowledge of land use policies and food production systems
  • Skills in performing literature reviews
  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills (in English and Swedish)
  • Excellent organisational and time-keeping skills

Experience in working with developing future scenarios, assessing biomass-production systems, experience with collaborating with different scientific disciplines, systems analysis, land-use change modelling, are merits.

The main duty for the PostDoc will be to carry out research within a project in collaboration with several senior researchers and PhD students, but also within a wider research environment including several PostDocs and PhD students investigating research questions on similar themes. The PostDoc may also participate in teaching on a limited basis.

Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant have a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position, completed no more than three years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree could have been completed earlier.

The most important criterion for evaluating the applicants will be scientific skill. Personal suitability for the project will be of importance.
