Department of Experimental Medical Science

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

The Department of Experimental Medical Science, the Medical Microspectroscopy research group, is looking for a researcher for work with probing the amyloid proteins in cells and tissues using infrared microscopy.

Work duties

The project will deal with using infrared micro and nano spectroscopy to interface cells and tissues. This will involve infrared method optimization for site specific chemical imaging of amyloid proteins. The following specific work tasks are associated with this:

  • Shared responsibilities for development of infrared microspectroscopy applications for chemical imaging of amyloid proteins directly in tissue or cells.
  • Shared responsibility for the Infrared measurements (micro- and nano- scale)
  • Contribution to the design, the purchase and the installation of spectroscopic instrument in order to ensure the availability of a competitive and reliable environment for infrared measurements.
  • Contribution to the design of spectroscopic experiments.
  • Contribution to supervision of PhD students and diploma students.

Qualification requirements

We are looking for a senior researcher with:

  • PhD in Physics or Chemistry.
  • Solid knowledge and at least 10 years experiences in instrumentation controls hardware and software in FTIR microspectroscopy.
  • Experience with cell and tissue infrared microspectroscopy data acquisition and data analysis.
  • Experience with nanoscopy measurements and evaluation of data from such measurements.
  • Experience with data analysis using OPUS.
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English and Swedish.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.
