The Department of Food Technology, Engineering, and Nutrition reimagines and improves both products and processes in the food supply chain.
Our work has a clear connection to Agenda 2030 through a research focus on sustainable and nutritious food for the future.
Collaboration with industry, farmers, and other research groups both inside and out of Sweden is an important component of our strategy.
Several well-known food innovations have come out of the Department, e.g. Oatly and Proviva.

Two Doctoral student in Food and Formulation Engineering with focus on formulation of protein drugs.

Subject description
The subject covers experimental and theoretical studies based on science and engineering aiming to address issues of relevance to the food industry, the pharmaceutical industry and adjacent business sectors, and systems aspects of the production and consumption of food in society.

Project description- NextBioform
The two announced positions will focus on the formulation of liquid protein drugs. The projects will be linked to the NextBioform competence centrum.

Many biological functional pharmaceuticals never reach the market due to poor stability or storage. NextBioForm is the centre that enables new and improved formulations which will bring active biopharmaceuticals to the patients. NextBioForm will build a sustainable platform for innovation, the development of formulations and process techniques for pharmaceuticals based on biologically active substances.

The aim for NextBioForm is improved pharmaceuticals from a patient- and health care perspective, as well as a strengthened innovation capability.

Work duties
The main duties of doctoral students are to devote themselves to their research studies which includes participating in research projects and third cycle courses. The work duties will also  teaching and other departmental duties (no more than 20%).

  4. Other experience relevant to the third-cycle studies, e.g. professional experience.

Other assessment criteria:

  • Good skills in collaborating with industry
  • Knowledge in one or more of the following Technologies: NMR, AF4, neutron scattering, DLS, CD, ITC
  • Skills in some of the following: pharmaceutical formulation, characterisation of protein and peptides, or competence in the area of surface and colloid chemistry

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant, through his or her experience and skills, is deemed to have the abilities necessary for successfully completing the third cycle programme.

Terms of employment
