Acute leukemia is one of the most common cancers in children. An important but yet unanswered question is how the leukemia process starts. Childhood leukemia offers a unique possibility to study this since many of the initiating mutations have been shown to occur in utero.

We are now in the process of establishing my research team, which will work on understanding in what cell the leukemia process starts. Focus will be on MLL-AF4, an aggressive mutation that causes around half of all infant leukemia. By using mouse models and human pluripotent stem cells we will investigate how the mutation affect cells functionally and molecukarly.

We are now looking for a team member that can take an active role for the practical work in the lab and participate in the different research projects.
